Be Safe
Walk away from bullies, count to ten to relax, share with others, be helpful and smile.
Absences and Tardiness
It is important that your child attend school everyday and on time. If your child is absent from school, a written explanation signed by the parent or guardian is required upon the child’s return to school. Should your child not want to come to school for various reasons (anything from a problem with peers to anxiety about an oral report), please notify me, and I will see how we can make the situation more comfortable for your child. Remember that your child’s attendance affects their academic performance.
Celebrations
Please, let me know a week in advance if you want to organize something special in the class. I’ll be glad to accommodate you, but I need time!
Health
Let me know immediately about any condition or allergies your child may have. I need to be aware of medication that has been prescribed for your child. If your child carries their inhaler with them, I need to also be aware of this. If your child has asthma, please make sure the office has an extra inhaler for him/her.
Homework
The purpose of homework is that it helps your child develop responsibility and a chance to practice skills taught during school.
It is the student’s responsibility to get missed homework and makeup work after being absent.
The homework given falls into one or more of the four categories:
1. Remedial Drill: An extension of the work that has been introduced in class and is designed to help strengthen the child’s weak areas.
2. Research: Work which involves the use of reference materials and is often given on an extended-time basis.
3. Reading (at least 30 minutes DAILY): Work that provides practice in reading fluency and reading comprehension.
4. Review: Time spent at home studying and preparing for a test or presentation.
As a concerned parent, please participate in the following ways:
1. Explain directions.
2. Assist when needed.
3. Praise your child for acceptable work.
