Welcome to Second Grade
Welcome to another school year. My name is Mrs. Kennedy, your child’s second grade teacher. It is my goal to have your child’s classroom environment to be a pleasant one filled with rich experiences, challenging projects, loads of achievements and lasting friendships. In order to accomplish this task I feel it is particularly important to develop and maintain a year of communication with you. Our interaction is essential to your child’s education-both academically and behaviorally.
Cooperative learning is one of the key elements in our classroom. Cooperative learning is a special kind of learning where your child will be working in small groups and discussing ideas with others. Your child will have the chance to get more personalized attention while learning to interact effectively with peers.
Your child will also be given independent study projects. Independent study projects are opportunities for your child to shine in their own light. These projects help your child’s talent and creativity to emerge. Independent study projects are assigned to allow children to work at their own pace.
I realize that you may have extremely busy schedules and that you will not be able to take part in our classroom on a regular basis. There are, however, many other ways to take part in your child’s learning experience. Please contact me so we may discuss these ways in which you can become involved with your child’s academic endeavors.
Thank you for your cooperation and for your involvement. I look forward to getting to know you and working together with you for the best interest of your child.
